Bhagat Puran Singh with Pyara Singh |
One example of the thought of caring the disabled of Bhagat Ji's is Pyara Singh, whom they found at Gurudwara Dera Sahib and carried on their shoulders throughout their life. Bhagat Puran Singh carried Pyara Singh all the way from Pakistan to India walking 50kms during the partition of India in 1947. Bhagat Puran Singh Ji used to perform their daily routine jobs carrying Pyara Singh on their shoulders. Bhagat Ji thought that their are lot of others like Pyara Singh that are disabled and are unable to do anything on their own. This thinking led to the formation of the Pingarwarha, the home for the homeless. Pingarwarha supported disabled and the orphans that were not supported by anyone. Bhagat Puran Singh Ji dedicated their whole life for the welfare of the disabled people and saving the environment. Bhagat Puran Singh Ji died on 5th August, 1992 afternoon in PGI hospital, Chandigarh. Bhagat Puran Singh Ji will always be remembered for their dedication for the disabled and their love for the environment. Pingalwarha setup by Bhagat Ji at G.T. Road, Amritsar, Punjab, India is still running successfully. Pingalwarha is currently run by Dr. Inderjit Kaur. Free print media of Bhagat Puran Singh is still available from Pingalwarha.
