Maharaja Ranjit Singh was the Emperor of Punjab. He was Grandson of Charat Singh and was born to Mahan Singh and Raj Kaur on Nov. 13, 1780 at Gujranwala. In his youth, he was an excellent Horseman and skilled in all kinds of military activities.
He was first married to Mehtab Kaur. He was a born ruler and established the Sikh Raj. One among his generals was the widely known Hari Singh Nalwa. The Sikh Raj (Sikh Empire) established the present day Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Peshawar and Tibet. The Gold and Marble work at Darbar Sahib ( widely known as Harmandir Sahib or Golden Temple ) was done under the patronage of Maharaja Ranjit Singh. Maharaja Ranjit Singh died on June 20, 1839.
